Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition that is characterised by red, inflamed, thickened skin often with white silvery scale. The itch can vary in its severity and there may be painful cracks that can appear. The plaques are often on elbows, knees or the scalp but can be generalised and could involve the nails and sometimes joints can be involved (causing joint pain). It can start at any age and tends to persist for life, but may fluctuate in its severity. Depending on its location and pattern or appearance, there are different names given to the psoriasis.
Aggravating Factors
Treatment
Whilst leading a less stressful lifestyle and reducing some of the factors mentioned above, is of importance and can benefit most patients, it might be necessary to have topical medications, systemic medications or phototherapy.
